Western Digital My Book 3.0 1TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive Review

Final Thoughts
It is great to see Western Digital upgrade their My Book drives to support the new and super-fast USB 3.0 connectivity.  If you look at the previous page you can see the difference between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0.  This increase in speed means transferring files to the My Book 3.0 will be faster and say you are encoding files and saving them to the My Book 3.0 the process will get done quicker because of the increased speed of USB 3.0.

What if your motherboard does not support USB 3.0?  Well the My Book 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0, but even better it does comes with a USB 3.0 PCI-Express card.  This means as long as you have an open PCI-E x1 lane on your motherboard you can now have USB 3.0 connectivity.  Western Digital actually has 2 versions of this drive, one that comes with the PCI-E card and the other that does not come with the card.

I really like that this drive is smaller than the previous versions of the drive.  This means it will take up less space on your desk.  Western Digital has kept the “book” look for this drive and I have always liked it.  If you have a few of these drives lined up they really do look like books on a shelf.

Right now you can find this drive online for an around $100, that is a great price for a 1TB external USB 3.0 drive.  Overall ThinkComputers gives the Western Digital My Book 3.0 1TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive a 10 out of 10 score!
