ViewSonic V3D231 3D-Ready 23-inch LCD Monitor Review

Final Thoughts
Well even if this monitor did not have a 3D capability I would definitely recommend it.  It is one of the best displays that I have seen in a while.  The darks are very dark and the brights are very vibrant.  I really enjoyed playing games on the V3D231 especially new games like Battlefield 3.  With the settings maxed out the scenes in the game just looked amazing and because the game looked so good I wanted to play for longer.  The 2ms response time means you will not see any ghosting even in the most intensive games.

For basic usage the V3D231 will get the job done.  The 1920 x 1080 maximum resolution means you will have quite a lot of desktop real estate and you should be able to have multiple windows open at once.  This also means you will be able to play full HD content at its native resolution.  The V3D231 gives you 3 connection options, HDMI 1.4a, DVI and VGA so you can connect all different types of devices to the display, not just your computer.

There still is not that much 3D content out there so that is where the TriDef 3D software comes in, well that is if you can get it installed.  ViewSonic does include the software on the included CD, but when you run the installer it does not install the TriDef 3D software, just the user’s guide for the monitor.  I had to look online to find out that TriDef 3D was included then had to search the CD directory to find the installer for the software, quite annoying.

The TriDef 3D software is what really makes this display.  It will turn your 2D games and content into 3D content.  You are able to play movies and video clips with the TriDef 3D media player and they actually look quite good.  Playing games with the TriDef 3D software also works surprisingly well.  I really enjoyed playing games in 3D, but it does take a little work to get get them working correctly.  Also as I said on the previous page playing games in 3D will put my load on your GPU so be prepared for that, but it is definitely worth it.

When it is all said and done the V3D231 sells for $299 at my favorite online retailer, which is a great price for a 3D-ready monitor that has all of the features and great performance of the V3D231.  I would have liked to see more comfortable 3D glasses and more documentation on the TriDef 3D software, but overall I am impressed with this display.  Overall ThinkComputers gives the ViewSonic V3D231 3D-Ready 23-inch LCD Monitor a 9 out of 10 score.
