A full-featured connected home would be awesome, but there are so many products and standards, each requiring its own hub and supported devices, that it is confusing and difficult to setup. TP-LINK wants to give consumers the confidence that whatever they buy will work in their home, which is why they created SR20. It is an IoT hub with a built-in AC1900 router that will work with Zigbee, Z-Wave or Wi-Fi devices.
Garage door openers, light bulbs, smoke alarm sensors, IP cameras, sprinkler systems, you name it, TP-LINK SR20 can most likely support it. SR20 at its heart contains TP-LINK’s quality networking components providing AC1900 performance with a 1GHz dual-core CPU, four Gigabit Ethernet ports, and beamforming. But what most consumers will most likely notice is a 4.3″ touchscreen on the top of SR20. All devices IoT connected devices can be controlled via this touchscreen, or even easier through TP-LINK’s Kasa app. Triggers, scheduled tasks, turning devices on/off, and much more can all be done through Kasa. TP-LINK plans to have Kasa available for iOS and Android.
SR20 also has an SD Card slot in addition to a USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 port. These ports make it easy if you want to have a connected home camera record to external storage, saving the hassle of setting up another computer who’s sole purpose is recording video from cameras around the house.
TP-LINK SR20 is expected to launch Q2 2016, and pricing is not yet available.
