Thermaltake Toughpower DPS G 850W Power Supply Review

Final Thoughts
Once again I am very impressed by a Thermaltake power supply! I have been using Thermaltake power supplies in builds for years and this new power supply just proves why I continue to use them. First just take a look at the power supply, it sure is sexy! It is not just your plain black box, Thermaltake has even rounded the corners to make it stand out more. The gold grill over the fan adds even more style.

Beyond just looks this power supply performs very well. The voltage regulation on all of the rails were under the 5% that we like to see, although testing with OCCT did show a lot of “ripple” in the 3.3V rail, but checking with our multimeter we did not see that much fluctuation at all. Of course this unit has an 80PLUS Gold rating, which means it is up to 87% efficient at 20% and 100% load and 90% efficient at 100% load.

This is a digital power supply and with that Thermaltake allows you to connect it to your motherboard to view stats and do much more in real time. The free DPSApp allows you to easily check your rails, efficiency, temperature, total watts your system is using, change fan speed and even calculate the cost to have your system running. It also auto-logs everything (as long as the app is open) so you can see these stats overtime.

Right now the 850W unit we reviewed is selling for $165 at my favorite online retailer. Thermaltake also offers this unit in wattages ranging from 450W to 1050W. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Thermaltake Toughpower DPS G 850W Power Supply a 9 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award.
