Thermaltake Max 5G USB 3.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure Review

Final Thoughts
It is always great to see products get updated with newer technology and improvements and the Max 5G is one such product.  Thermaltake has updated the traditional USB 2.0 enclosure with much faster USB 3.0 technology.  If you want to see the speed difference check out the last graph on the previous page.  Keep in mind the Max 5G is backwards compatible with USB 2.0.  This enclosure also has 2 great 80mm blue LED fans, if you are not a fan of the LEDs they can be turned off by a switch on the back of the enclosure.

Installation of a drive into the enclosure could not be simpler.  It is basically tool-less except for the 2 hex bolts you need to remove to get the side of the enclosure off.  I would have liked to see this enclosure be entirely tool-less, but I’m not sure how they would go about doing that.

One thing we always notice with Thermaltake is quality and the Max 5G is no different.  A testimate to the quality of Thermaltake’s products is that I still have the original BlacX USB 2.0 enclosure.  With the addition of the BlacX 5G and now the Max 5G Thermaltake has your USB 3.0 needs covered.

Right now the Max 5G sells for $58.99 at my favorite online retailer.  This puts it a little big higher than other USB 3.0 external enclosures, but those other enclosures do not offer the 2 80mm blue LED fans or support of SATA 6GB/s drives so keep that in mind.  Overall ThinkComputers gives the Thermaltake Max 5G USB 3.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure a 10 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award!
