The First Intel Z390 Chipset Motherboard Has Been Spotted In Sandra

Intel’s Z390 chipset is something we’ve talked about previously. Well it looks like the first Z390 motherboard has been spotted in the SiSoftware Sandra Database by VideoCardz. The board comes from SuperMicro and is their C7Z390-PGW.

A leaked Intel roadmap showed a Z370 chipset that would show up sometime around the second half of 2018. Many wondering what this Z390 chipset was and what chips it would actually support. Well the entry in the Sandra database shows a 6-core processor.

But we do know that Intel has a 8-core 14nm Coffee Lake processor in the works, which we think the Z390 chipset is for. That information surfaced via an XTU errata log showing a change-log entry that reads “[CFL] Added support for 8,2 core”. We can assume that CFL stands for Coffee Lake.

Intel having an 8-core, 16-thread chip in the mainstream could mean serious competition for AMD’s Ryzen 7 processors, even if they refresh by the time Z390 is out.
