Workstation systems are not what you would really call compact, when we think of compact systems we typically think of home theater PCs or low-powered LAN rigs. Well BOXX is changing that with their extremely compact workstation called the APEXX 1. It provides a tremendous amount of power in a compact size!
The APEXX 1 is being offered in two different configurations. The first is i7 based and the second is Xeon based. The i7 systems will feature an 8-core CPU that is overclocked up to 4.0 GHz and up to 32GB of DDR4 memory. The Xeon E5 configuration comes with up to 18 cores and up to 64GB of DDR4 memory. There will be overclocked Skylake models at the end of the month too! Since this is a workstation system you have the choice between NVIDIA Quadro or AMD FirePro graphics cards.
All this power packed in a system cannot be that small can it? The system is less than 5-inches wide, 8.5-inches tall and only 9-inches deep! This is made possible by an in-house developed chassis and 15-years on experience.
Keeping the system nice and cool is a combination of a liquid cooling system and a blower fan. The closed loop AiO cooler is maintenance free so the system does not really require anything more than a little de-dusting.
For storage you have room inside for two 2.5-inch hard drives, which we would assume you would use for solid state drives. You also have the option of installing an M.2 PCI-Express NVMe drive.
On the rear you have both USB 3.1 and 3.0 ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet, eSATA and four mini DisplayPorts so you can connect up to four 4K monitors.
These systems are not for everyone, fully configured systems are in the $3000 – $4000 range. For more information check out the product page.
