TerraMaster F2-220 2-Bay NAS Review

Installation & Initial Setup
Getting your drives installed in the F2-220 is extremely easy, the trays come right out without any issues at all. We will be installing two WD RED 6TB NAS drives in the F2-220. They easily mount in the trays with the included screws. A screw-less design for 3.5-inch drives would have been nice, but screwing in 4 screws per drive is not that bad.

One you have your drives install and back in the F2-220 all you have to do is connect it to power and to your network and you are good to go! Press the power button on the front and you are ready to set it up for the first time.

To start the first time setup you can either download the Desktop application to connect to the F2-220 or find out what its IP address is and enter that into your browser. Either way you’ll be brought to the Initialization screen, from here you can start setting up the F2-220. Once you hit start it will first check your drives and make sure they are good. Be sure to check this screen and make sure both your drives show up.

Next the F2-220 will download the and install the TerraMaster Operating System (TOS). If you are on a closed network you can download TOS and manually install it.

After TOS gets installed you will be prompted to set a device name, time zone, administrator password, security e-mail, and the verification code when it gets sent to you. You don’t have to set a security e-mail, but if you ever for some reason get locked out of your NAS you’ll be able to reset things with your e-mail address.

Finally the last step is setting the RAID mode you want if you have more than one drive installed. You have the option of RAID 1, RAID 0, JBOD, and Single Disk. TerraMaster has organized these showing you which will have data protection and which will not.

Once the volume has been created you will be brought to the login screen. Once logged in you are in TOS and you can start exploring. On the next page we will go over TerraMaster’s TOS system.
