Installation & Testing
Installing your drives in the DS221 is very simple. First we will be using 2 Samsung 128GB RBX series solid state drives. These drives are identical. To install the drives all you have to do is slide them into the enclosure and lock them into place by closing the doors. Next just plug the drive enclosure into your computer be either USB or eSATA and then plug it in. It’s really that simple!
We tested the enclosure on both the eSATA and USB connection using HD Tune Pro. We tested all 3 modes as well, JBOD, RAID 0, and RAID 1. Here are the results.
As you can see there really isn’t much change in the results of the USB test. That is because the transfer speed is limited to the USB connection. The eSATA results do show a change as we can see RAID 0 gives us the fastest transfer speeds.
