Seagate FreeAgent XTreme 1TB External Hard Drive Review

FreeAgent XTreme Overview
The FreeAgent Xtreme has the same redesigned outer casing as the FreeAgent desk, except that it is black all around. As I said in the other review I really like this new design, I’m sure consumers will too. The front of the drive has the LED array and Seagate logo on it.

Moving around to the back of the XTreme you have all of your connections. You have firewire, USB, and eSATA. Also you will find the power connection and a lock port. It’s really interesting that Seagate included eSATA on this drive but did not include the PCI bracket let alone the eSATA cable.

The XTreme comes in 4 different capacities, 500GB, 640GB, 1TB and 1.5TB, we received the 1TB version. There is a stand included that will allow you to stand the drive up vertically. On the bottom of the stand there are 4 rubber feet that will keep the drive in place.

Setup
When you first go to setup your drive you can either put it vertically or just set it on the desk. The drive does come with small rubber feet so if you want to lift the drive up off your desk you can. When you plug in the drive it will light up. As I said this lighting features is really cool, when you are access the drive or transferring files the lights will pulse. If the lights annoy you they can be turned off.

So when you plug the drive in will be prompted to install the Seagate software, although it is not required I would suggest installing it so you can setup a backup plan and sync folders.
