Scythe Byakko CPU Cooler Review

Scythe Byakko CPU Cooler Overview
The Scythe Byakko is your typical single tower CPU Cooler. It has official dimensions of 102 x 130 x 83 mm (W x H x D) with the fan attached. The fan is the Slip Stream 92 PWM and is pre-installed on the front of the cooler. This fan has speeds of 300 rpm (±200) ~ 2300 rpm (±10%), with an airflow of 11,38 ~ 79,09 m³/h / 6.70 ~ 46.55 CFM, and a noise level of 7,2 ~ 28,26 dBA.

Taking a look at the cooler from the side we can see the tower heatsink is not all that thick. With the fan attached the entire cooler is only 83 mm thick. This means you shouldn’t run into any RAM clearance issues at all.

Moving around to the backside of the cooler we can see the heatsink design as well as the heatpipes. There heatsink itself is made of aluminum and there are three 6 mm heatpipes that go up into the heatsink in a “U” fashion giving you theoretically six heatpipes.

At the top of the cooler you’ll find a top heatsink fin that has the Scythe logo on it. This will of course show out if you have a window on your case.

Finally flipping over to the bottom of the cooler we can see the base. Again, Scythe has pre-installed the Intel mounting hardware, so this will save you some time if you are installing on an Intel system. The base is nickel-plated copper and is pretty thick. It has a nice mirror-like finish with no visible machining marks. Here we can also get a close-up at the heapipes and we can see they go right through the center of the base.
