Sapphire HD 5830 Xtreme 1GB Video Card Review

HD 5830 Xtreme Overview
As I said in the introduction of this article the 5800 series was the family of cards to support DirectX 11 and it introduced us all the the smaller 40nm GPU process.  This 5830 Xtreme features 1120 stream processors, 56 texture units, an 800 MHz core clock and 1GB of DDR5 memory.  The 5830 Xtreme looks like a very solid card and has Sapphire’s custom cooler and shroud on it.

The shroud is all black with silver accents and look pretty cool.  Towards the back of it is a sticker with the 5830 logo on it.  In the center of the shroud is a fan that will help keep the GPU cool.

The shroud really does cover most of the card, so it is hard to really get a good look at the cooler.  It is a heatpipe cooler with 3 copper heatpipes that go up into the heatsink array.  This card also features optimised voltage regulation, which can be adjusted with the free Sapphire TriXX software.

Towards the end of the card you will the the power connectors.  The HD 5830 Xtreme takes 2 6pin PCI-E power connectors.  As far as connections go on the card you have 1x mini DisplayPort, 1x HDMI and 1x DVI.  This card is also a dual slot card so there are vents above the connections to help with cooling.
