Samsung Working On 970 and 980 Series NVMe SSDs

Samsung has revealed their plans to launch new consumer SSDs which will succeed their current 960 EVO and 960 Pro drives. Through the end of this year and into 2018 Samsung is expected to launch the new 970 series and 980 series NVMe solid state drives.

With these new drives Samsung could move away from the “EVO” and “Pro” brand extensions and more to a static model numbers like “970” and “980”. It is likely that Samsung will make use of its current 3-bit per cell (TLC) 64-layer 3D V-NAND flash memory for the 970 and 980 series. Since these drives will support the NVMe protocol expect them to come in modern form factors like M.2 and U.2.
