ROCCAT Savu Gaming Mouse Review

Software & Usage
As you may have seen with many of the ROCCAT products we have reviewed their software is pretty in-depth.  One thing that was pretty interesting about the software was when I installed it, it updated the firmware on the mouse, I haven’t seen that before.  I have made a video going over all of the details of the software.

As you saw in the video above you can change the colors of the mouse very easily and to pretty much any color you like.  You can also set the lights to pulse and change colors.  Here are a few photos of the lights in action.

Before it get in to my experience using this mouse I wanted to let you know I have been using the Cyborg M.M.O. 7 gaming mouse for quite awhile now.  I will not be comparing the two mice, because obviously they are two different types of mice, but that is what I am coming from.

I was presently surprised when I first started using the Savu that it was extremely comfortable and there really was no usage time that it took me to get used to it.  It basically fit my hand perfectly and my hand and wrist did not feel agitated after using it.  This happens when you change mice and keyboards after using one for a while.  The rubber coating on the main part of the mouse is very comfortable, but beware you are going to see visible fingerprints on it after only a day of use.  The side grips, which are the “no sweat” grips actually feel great and during intense gaming sessions your fingers do not slide off them at all.

I thought going from a mouse with 10+ buttons to one with only 4 would be a big deal, but honestly it really was not.  I mainly play FPS games the 4 buttons on the mouse are more than adequate.  If you think about it in an FPS that’s shoot, alt shoot, weapon cycle (scroll wheel), reload and you still have another button for something else.  Also this mouse features ROCCAT’s Easy-Shift[+] technology.  This basically doubles the buttons on the mouse.  When you press and hold your defined Easy-Shift[+] button the buttons on the mouse change to what you have them set to in the Easy-Shift[+] configuration.  I honestly did not think that I would use that function that much, but I use it all the time now.  Once you get used to using the Easy-Shift[+] button it becomes extremely easy.  Also keep in mind if you have a ROCCAT keyboard you can also use this same functionality on both the keyboard and mouse.  Another great feature of the mouse is that you can create macro’s – perfect for those games where you need to buy items at the beginning of each round or for MMO’s.  You also have up 5 different profiles where you can save your different configurations.
