ROCCAT Kone[+] Gaming Mouse Review

A Closer Look
The mouse has a very clean look to it. Surprisingly the mat black rubberized texture that covers the ENTIRE mouse fits nicely with the lines of gloss black plastic that breaks up the sidewalls from the top of the mouse. On the back near where your wrist would lay the ROCCAT logo exists. I love the ROCCAT logo. It makes me think of the ThunderCats and anything that makes me think of the ThunderCats is a good thing.

Each side of the Kone[+] is quite different. The left side of the mouse features one of the most prominent thumb inlays I’ve ever seen on a mouse. The Logitech MX Revolution may be the only other mouse to have such a pronounced thumb area. Because of the color of the mouse it was very hard to get a solid pic of how deep the inlay actually is but trust me, it’s deep. Also on the left side we have the Kone[+] logo and a smaller ROCCAT logo (J). Above those logos are your typical “forward/back” Mouse 3 and 4 buttons.

The top front of the Kone[+] has what looks like a very cheap scroll wheel. After using the scroll wheel for a bit you can quickly tell that the looks downplay the quality. The wheel feels solid and features a three way click: Down, Left, and Right. In front of the scroll wheel you have a profile select button and below it you have 2 buttons set to DPI adjustment.

The feet on the bottom of the mouse have some of the largest glide feet I’ve ever seen. They are very thick so I don’t see you having to replace them anytime soon. The Kone[+] also features a 6000DPI Pro-aim sensor. Will you ever use the mouse on that DPI setting? My guess would be no. The nice thing about having a sensor rated that high typically means that the mid range DPI’s that you will use are very refined.

Directly behind the sensor is a small compartment that reminds me of the ball-mouse days. Under the door is a place for you to insert 4 small weights. Each weight weighs 5 grams to make a total of 20 grams if all 4 are in place at the same time. 20 grams of weight installed into a mouse only weighs 126 grams to begin with is a big increase. You can feel the difference from the first swipe you make on across the desk. Personally, I like my mice a bit thick. Keeps you warmer in the winter time.

The one thing that makes me upset is when I see a mouse in this price range come without some kind of braided USB cable. All the other kids in class have braided cables, so mom (ROCCAT) needs to set up and buy some before they get made fun of…
