Retested: Deepcool Captain 240 Liquid CPU Cooler

Final Thoughts
While we can’t be certain if it was the thermal paste or the improved mounting system that gave the big drops in temperature one thing is certain this cooler has gained a whole lot of appeal to this reviewer. After we adjust for the difference in temperature between our best performing AiO liquid cooler, the H110i GT; we find that the Captain 240 is only 1.64°C warmer! Considering that there is a pretty big surface area difference between the two radiators it’s a pretty good result for DeepCool. In addition to the performance difference DeepCool was keen to let us know that the unit can be had on Newegg for $109.99. This is a pretty awesome price, but leaves us scratching our heads wondering why DeepCool themselves list the unit on Amazon for $149.99? So if you’re now thinking about picking one of these guys up we recommend shopping around.

It was nice to get a second unit and see some great increases in performance. Unfortunately it also served to punctuate the downsides. We still find that across their AiO range the screws are for the most part still difficult to install. Certainly if there is one area of improvement for DeepCool to focus on it would be fit and finish as most of the industry is leaps ahead in this category.

After retesting ThinkComputers would like to award the DeepCool Captain 240 an 8 out of 10 score.
