Final Thoughts
As I said in the overview section of this review the RX-1000AE does not really stand out of the crowd when it comes to power supplies. It is a primarily plain black unit with typical modular cables. So from an aesthetics standpoint this unit is much like the other “black boxes” out there. The white fan gives it a little uniqueness, but if you are installing this unit in a current tower you really are not going to see the fan anyways. With that said there are some things that definitely do make this unit stand out.
First lets talk about the most important thing, voltage regulation. All of our rails did show some “ripple”, but were well within the specifications and voltage regulation that we want to see. The most important rail, the 12v rail had the best voltage regulation at 0.83%. This unit is also 80PLUS Gold certified, which means it will be 90% efficient at 50% load and 87% efficient at 100% load.
The unit does come with modular cables which means you only need to plug in the cables that you need. Being a 1000W unit the RX-1000AE will be able to handle CrossFire and SLI setups no problem. Another thing that surprised me about this unit was the accessories package. With the RX-1000AE you get 2 sets of screws (one set are thumbscrews), 2 sets of velcro cable ties and a vibration dampener. Normally with most power supplies you maybe get one of these things, but to have them all definitely adds some value. On top of that the actual packaging of the unit is a sort of toolbox that can be used to carry these items as well as your other computer accessories.
This unit is also priced quite well, at the time of this review it is selling for around $150 at my favorite online retailer. Most other 1000W 80PLUS Gold certified power supplies that are modular or semi-modular are at lest $180 if not more. So if you are not looking to break the bank and want a good no frills power supply the RX-1000AE is a good choice.
