Prices Going Down on Premium 900-Series NVIDIA Cards

NVIDIA’s stock of GeForce GTX Founders Edition cards have finally made their way into the channel and with custom-cooled cards due to arrive in a week or so, NVIDIA has started to drop prices on premium GeForce GTX 900-Series cards.

Case in point is the MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6G Golden Edition, which is listed on Newegg for $369.99 after rebate. Even with this price drop it still does not really make sense to get this card. The GTX 1070 now occupies that performance place, and custom-designed cards will start at $379. There have also been some price drops for the GTX 970 showing up at Scan for £214.03 and Overclockers for £214.99.

NVIDIA is obviously dropping prices to move much older stock out of the channel as fast as possible. This could also mean that NVIDIA is trying to clean old surplus as they could be introducing the GTX 1060 at a very attractive price point to combat AMD’s Radeon RX 480, which sits at $199.
