NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080M GPU Detailed

Alleged specifications and benchmarks of NVIDIA’s upcoming GeForce GTX 1080M graphics card have been leaked to the web. The GeForce GTX 1080M will replace the GeForce GTX 980 (mobility) as NVIDIA’s flagship mobile graphics processor. It will of course utilize the the GP104 architecture to deliver a nice boost in performance and efficiency over the previous generation.

Getting down to specifications the GeForce GTX 1080M will feature 2048 CUDA cores, 128 TMUs, 64 ROPs as well as 8GB of GDDR5 memory. The GeForce GTX 980 (mobility) has the exact same specifications actually. The big difference here will be that moving down to 14 nm and the architectural differences will deliver better per core performance and faster clocks.

The GeForce GTX 1080M features clock speeds of 1442 MHz base and a GPU boost up to 1645 MHz. This is compared to the GTX 980 (mobility) at 1064 MHz base and 1228 MHz boost. The 1080M’s memory is also clock higher churning out a bandwidth of 256 GB/s compared to the 980’s 224 GB/s. The 1080M could feature the same 150W TDP as the GTX 980 (mobility).

A 3DMark Fire Strike benchmark has been leaked as well.

As you can see the 1080M scored a graphics score of 16893 in the synthetic benchmark. In comparison the GTX 980 (mobility) scores 13125 in the same test, and a desktop GeForce GTX 980 Ti scores 16905 in this test. So you can see the card is just as fast as the previous generation desktop card, and would put the GTX 1080M at the top of single-GPU notebook performance.
