Noctua NH-D9L CPU Cooler Review

Noctua NH-D9L CPU Cooler Overview
The NH-D9L is a rather small CPU cooler, but that might be a little hard to tell by the photo below. The actual official dimensions of the cooler are 110 x 95 x 95 mm (HxWxD). This size ensures that the cooler is 3U compatible and also 100% RAM compatible on Intel and most AMD platforms as well. It is safe to say this cooler will fit in most PC builds.

The cooler is designed with a single fan in the center. This is Noctua’s own NF-A9 premium fan. This fan has a max rotational speed of 2000 RPM and 1550 RPM if you happen to use the included low-noise adapter. One thing that is always great about Noctua fans is that they have arrows on them showing the direction of the airflow.

The fan sits in between two tower-type heatsinks. These heatsinks have four thick copper heatpipes that run through them. You can also see that the fan actually sits a little above the top of the heatsink towers.

Looking at the top of the cooler we can see the heatpipes poking out of the towers and on the top fin of each tower there is a Noctua logo.

Taking a closer look at the heatpipes you can see they go right down into the heatsink base, which is also made of copper.

The heatsink base itself is nicely machined, which means it will make good contact with your CPU. Both the heatpipes and the heatsink base are nickel-plated.
