A new word overclocking record has been set by professional overclocker Chi-Kui Lam for the Intel Core i7-6700K Skylake processor. He came extremely close to the 7.0 GHz mark with a maximum stable figure of 6998.88 MHz. This feat was of course achieved by using liquid nitrogen.
Lam increased the core voltage from 1.2v to 1.888v and the multiplier from 40 to 70! That is a core increase of 74.97 percent compared to the stock speed of the Core i7-6700K!
Lam was able to achieve this overclock using ASRock’s Z170 OC Formula motherboard, G.Skill Ripjaws 4 DDR4 memory, and a 1300W power supply. The motherboard uses a 17-phase voltage regulator that makes use of high-end solid state chokes and capacitors.
Wonder if anyone will be able to beat this overclock?!
