MSI GeForce GTX 780 Lightning Performance Teased

If there is one series of video cards we always look forward to it is MSI’s Lightning cards. These cards are MSI’s top of the line cards and we have been very excited for MSI to release their GeForce GTX 780 Lightning. MSI has teased the card on their Facebook page and also showcased the first performance preview of the upcoming card.

MSI GeForce GTX 780 Lightning

MSI released a teaser video back in July letting us know the release date for the card would be August 7th. This new card would feature the GK110-300-A2 chip with 2304 cores, 192 TMUs, 48 ROPs and 3 GB of GDDR5 memory running along a 384-bit interface. The card is said to feature a massive factory overclock and has a new backplate and shroud design. This gives us the indication that it will be a new Twin Frozr design, Twin Frozr V.

The two images which you see above were teased by MSI a while back and show the shroud with Lightning logo and MSI’s recently introduced reactor module on the back of the PCB. MSI lets us know that this is an upgraded version of the reactor module.

MSI GeForce GTX 780 Lightning Performance

Of course as performance is concerned the card was tested in 3DMark 11 by MSI’s in-house overclocker “Elmor” who broke 20195 in the benchmark. MSI claims the GTX 780 Lightning is the fastest GTX 780 in the world. We do not know if this test was from the stock speeds for the card or if some overclocking was done by “Elmor” on the card itself. Nonetheless we are very excited for this card!
