Microsoft Paint Is Getting Killed Off

Well it is not official, but the beloved Microsoft Paint is being killed off. Now to be fair the writing was already on the wall as Microsoft recently announced a UWP app called Paint 3D, which is meant to replace paint. That did not stop many people from still using Paint (we still use it for many of our screenshots!), but now Paint has been put on Microsoft’s “deprecated” list (which means “not in active development and might be removed in future releases”).

That means for the upcoming Fall Windows 10 Creators Update it is likely that Paint will not be included. If not included it seems users will be forced to use the newer Paint 3D.

Paint has been part of the Windows operating system since 1985 where it was released alongside Windows 1.0. Microsoft has updated Paint over the years, with the latest overhaul being done on the Windows 10 Creators Update. While Paint’s features are very limited, its simplicity is what made it great and the fact that many people used it to create their first images on a computer.
