Microsoft Locking Windows 7, 8.1 Updates on Ryzen, Kaby Lake Systems

Well it looks like Microsoft is locking out certain Windows 7 and 8.1 users from updates if they have a Kaby Lake or Ryzen processor. This is of course their way of getting more users on Windows 10. Windows 7 and 8.1 users apparently have been getting a lock on system updated with an error message that reads “Your PC uses a processor that isn’t supported on this version of Windows”.

There is a Microsoft Support page which explains that Windows 10 is the only Microsoft operating system to support particular hardware configurations. These hardware configurations are systems based on Intel’s “seventh (7th)-generation processors or a later generation” (Kaby Lake); “AMD seventh (7th)-generation (“Bristol Ridge”) processor or a later generation”; and “Qualcomm “8996” processor or a later generation”.
