MacBook Pro Retina with Haswell Confirmed

Apple’s MacBook Air was the first product to get a refresh with Intel’s new 4th generation Core Haswell processors. This was done to not only boost performance, but to also improve battery life. It seemed like only a matter of time before we saw Haswell on other Apple laptops. A validation of a 15-inch MacBook Pro on the GeekBench database reveals that Apple is already testing the notebook with the latest Haswell chips.

Haswell combines four CPU cores with up to 6 MB of L3 cache and a large integrated graphics core that has 40 execution units. This added power allows the chip to take on Apple’s Retina displays without the need for discrete GPU’s like the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M which was on the first Retina MacBook Pro.

The GeekBench validation revealed that the near future 15-inch MacBook Pro may run Intel’s Core i7-4950HQ quad core processor. These new Macbook Pro’s could be introduced by the end of the summer.
