Lowepro SlingShot 100 AW Camera Bag Review

Usage & Testing

Well of course to test this bag I went ahead and used it. This review came at perfect timing too because the Pittsburgh Penguins just won the Stanley Cup and they were celebrating with the “City of Champions” parade downtown. I of course took my D-SLR down to catch the action, see my Flickr set of the parade here.

So what did I take down to the parade with me? Well for starters my D-SLR and my Flip MinoHD digital camcorder. I also took with me my iPhone, headphones, battery charger, and a pair of sunglasses. With everything inside I still had room for quite a few accessories and other small gadgets.

One thing that was really cool about the SlingShot 100 AW is that there is a built in microfiber cloth that comes out from under the main compartment. This microfiber cloth is meant to protect the LCD screen of your D-SLR camera.

The SlingShot is very easy to put on just throw it over your shoulder, the weight of the bag is easily distributed and I barely even knew I had the bag on. I had it on the entire parade which was about 3 hours long from the time we got down there. I think the best benefit of the SlingShot is that you don’t need to take the bag off to remove or put away your camera. You slide the back across your body and you can easily open it up. Make sure you have those 2 buckles connected because they will stop the bag from completely opening up. This way you can grab your camera without dropping everything else out of your bag.

Final Thoughts

This is a really great bag, one that I’ve wanted for a while. I like that it is compact and small, perfect for events like the City of Champions parade or something similar. Even though it is small I still had enough room for my D-SLR, Flip MinoHD, and a ton of accessories. This bag is perfect for moments when you know you will need 1 or 2 lenses and don’t want to carry that big backpack full of all your camera gear.

This bag does provide ample protection for all of your gear. So say you drop the bag or someone knocks into you, your gear inside will be save. This bag also has the all-weather cover so no matter what it is like outside the gear inside your bag will be safe.

Finally my favorite part of the bag is the ability to grab your camera without having to take the bag off your back. So many times with backpacks I’ve had to set them down unzip them and take out my camera. With the SlingShot I just pull it over to the side, unzip it and grab my camera, it is that simple.

The SlingShot 100 AW sells for around $70 online, which is a very reasonable price for all of the storage space and features this bag has to offer. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Lowepro SlingShot 100 AW Camera Bag a 10 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award!
