Lenovo IdeaPad U260 12.5-inch Laptop Review

IdeaPad U260 Overview
I was instantly surprised when I took the U260 out of the packaging because of the mocha brown color.  Most laptops we see use a black or silver color, but with the U260 it only comes in mocha brown which we received and clementine orange.  These 2 colors are very unique and will make the U260 stand out for sure.  The U260 is in a magnesium-aluminum alloy shell which not only feels great and looks great, but provides great protection.  On the top lid you will find a small Lenovo logo.

Lenovo is calling this a slimbook and it really is slim at only 18mm thin!  It is the thinnest laptop I’ve had a chance to review and the only thing that really compares that I’ve had my hands on would be a MacBook Air.  Starting on the left side of the U260 you have a lock port, USB port, headphone jack, and WiFi switch.  On the opposite side you have the power connection, VGA out, ethernet, HDMI out and another USB port.

Moving around towards the back of the U260 the first thing I noticed was that it was completely flush, meaning that there was no battery sticking out the back.  Actually there is no battery visible at all, if you look at the bottom of the U260 it is covered with the same magnesium-aluminum alloy as the lid.  There are a few ventilation holes and 4 rubber feet on the bottom.

Lifting up the lid and opening the U260 up you are greeted with a 12.5-inch screen.  This is actually the first laptop to use a 12.5-inch screen.  This anti-glare screen will give you a 1366 x 768 resolution.  There is also an integrated webcam for things like Skype.

Keyboards are always so important on laptops and Lenovo has gone with the chicklet style with each button having a small curve at the bottom.  The keyboard does seem a little cramped, but overall it looks good.  I would have really liked to have seen a backlit keyboard.  One of my favorite features of the U260 is the leather palm rest.  The touchpad is made of glass and you have 2 larger buttons for the mouse.

There are 2 small speakers above the keyboard as well as a power button and 3 LED indicators, that actually look really cool.
