Kingston HyperX Cloud Stinger Gaming Headset Review

HyperX Cloud Stinger Gaming Headset Overview
The first thing you will notice about the HyperX Cloud Stinger Gaming Headset is actually how lightweight it is. It weighs in at only 275 grams. We’ve seen a lot of lightweight gaming headsets come out. This is because we are playing games more than ever now, and for longer periods of time. So a heavy headset can cause strain over time. Keeping with the HyperX theme, the Cloud Stinger is all black and has red HyperX logos on each earcup.

This headset has a lay-flat design. This is great for a couple of reasons, first it makes this headset really easy to take with you as it can lay flat in your bag or backpack. Secondly the lay-flat design allows you to rest the headset on your shoulder area, so you don’t need to take the headset off in between gaming sessions. You will notice that the left earcup has a microphone on it. This adjustable microphone will auto-mute when it is in the up position.

Taking a look at the earcups themselves they are equipped with Kingston’s signature HyperX memory foam cushions. These will make using the Cloud Stinger comfortable, even after long hours of gaming. Also to help with comfort there is a cushion on the headband. The headband itself is adjustable and has a steel slider so you know it is not going to break like cheaper headsets. Inside each earcup you have 50 mm directional drivers. These drivers are parallel to the ear to position sound directly into the ear for precision gaming-grade gaming audio.

On the right earcup there is a volume slider. This makes adjusting your volume extremely easy as you will not have to leave your game to do so.

Attached to the headset you have your standard 3.5 mm audio cable, which is 1.3 m long and 1.7 m long with the PC extension cable. The cable is rubber coated and seems pretty high quality and durable. The cable is hard-wired into the headset, which is sort of a bummer. It is really nice to be able to unplug the cable from the headset to get up in between gaming sessions. Also the microphone is not removable from the headset either.
