Kingston HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset Review

HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset Overview
Taking a look at the Cloud II you can see it almost looks identical to the original Cloud headset. Kingston has changed the styling up a little bit. The original Cloud came in white and black colors while the Cloud II comes in red and gunmetal colors. As you can see we have the red version.

One of the best features of the Cloud II is that is has brushed aluminum construction that runs through the headband. This not only looks great but ensures that the headband will not snap and break like we have seen on cheaper headsets. Also the part on the earcups where you see the HyperX logo is made of aluminum as well.

The headband of the Cloud II has memory foam built into it, which should make long hours of use very comfortable. On the top of the headband you will find the HyperX logo stitched in, something you really don’t see these days.

The earcups themselves are designed to fit over your ears. The headset ships with the leather earcups installed, but it also has a set of velour ones if you prefer them. Each earcup has 53 mm drivers that should provide some pretty impressive sound.

On the left earcup is where you will find the main audio connection that is wired into the headset and cannot be removed. There is also a small compartment that houses the connection for the included microphone. So if you happen to not want to use it you do not have to. The microphone easily plugs in here and you can adjust it for the best sound reception.

The main connection, the one that is hard-wired into the headset is a tri-band 3.5 mm stereo headphone/microphone connector. This can be used on say a laptop, tablet, phone and much more. Now if you happen to want to use this headset on your PC you can also use the included USB control box. You simply plug the 3.5 mm connector into the USB control box and then connect the control box to your PC in an open US port. The USB control box has a built-in DSP sound card that will give you 7.1 virtual surround sound. The control box also gives you volume controls for both the microphone and headset, ability to mute the microphone and to toggle the 7.1 surround sound on and off. There is a clip on the back of it as well to keep it close to you. All cables on the headset are braided and the USB connection is gold-plated.
