At its Technology and Manufacturing Day Intel showed a slide of a new server processor with 28 cores! We expect this is a die shot of a Skylake-SP processor in the Xeon Platinum range. Xeon Platinum Series processors will have 22 to 28 core models and will be part of the 8000 series.
Intel will also be offering 14 to 22-core parts that will make up the 5000 and 6000 series, these will be the Gold range, and then finally you’ll have 10-core parts as the 4000 series, those will be the Silver range.
So Platinum, Gold, and Silver is how Intel will be distinguishing the new Xeon processors. These new processors will be based on a new LGA 3647 socket.
