Intel Core i9-7960X 16-Core Processor Review

System Overview & Testing Procedures
For testing we will be using a single X299 system. This is a brand new system we’ve put together for testing Core-X Series processors. It is made up of the following components.

Intel Core i9-7960X

Processor: Intel Core i9-7980XE / Intel Core i9-7960X / Intel Core i7-7820X / Intel Core i7-7900X / Intel Core i7-7740X
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming X 3GB
Motherboard: ASRock X299 Taichi
Memory: 32GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical 3000 MHz
Storage: OCZ VX500 512GB SSD
Power: Corsair AX860i
Cooling: NZXT Kraken X52
Case: Primochill Praxis WetBench

For testing the processors we go into the BIOS and load the optimized defaults. The reason we do is because most people will have this setup on their own PC. This is the default mode if you do not go into the BIOS and change anything.

Here are the specifications of all of the processors we will be testing today.

Core i9-7980XE: 2.6 GHz / 4.2 GHz (4.4 GHz TB 3.0)
Core i9-7960X: 2.8 GHz / 4.2 GHz (4.4 GHz TB 3.0)
Core i9-7900X: 3.3 GHz / 4.3 GHz (4.5 GHz TB 3.0)
Core i9-7820X: 3.6 GHz / 4.3 GHz (4.5 GHz TB 3.0)
