Intel Cancels Intel Developer Forum, Including IDF17

Well this is a bit shocking, and probably surprising to most in the PC industry. Intel has announced that they have cancelled IDF17, and on top of that have terminated the Intel Developer Forum program altogether. Intel had already announced that there would not be an IDF in China this year, but it seems the cancellation is global and permanent.

Here is what Intel had to say about the cancellation:

“Intel has evolved its event portfolio and decided to retire the IDF program moving forward. Thank you for nearly 20 great years with the Intel Developer Forum! Intel has a number of resources available on intel.com, including a Resource and Design Center with documentation, software, and tools for designers, engineers, and developers. As always, our customers, partners, and developers should reach out to their Intel representative with questions.”

Intel has typically made major product announcements at IDF events such as Skylake, Kaby Lake, Optane, etc to name a few. This cancellation of these events means that Intel will likely make the larger announcements at events like CES and Computex we would assume. Intel claims to be moving to a more diversified direction than just “PC” and this is the motivation behind this change. It is likely they will have more targeted events like an “AI Day” or “Manufacturing Day” in the future.

What do you think of this change by Intel?
