In Win Metal Suit GD AL-13 Mid Tower Chassis Review

Installation

Installation for the Metal Suit GD was relatively simple in some spots, but difficult in others. I had no problems getting the power supply to install.

I started to encounter problems when installing the motherboard. The main problem with trying to install the motherboard was trying to lift your arms over the VGA cooling system, which was perpendicular to the case. On the other hand I didn’t have to install any standoffs because of the pre-raised standoffs on the tray.

Installing small expansion cards is a breeze with the tool-free design. I think it would be a little bit nicer if In Win actually installed the expansion brackets in the case rather than leaving them for the end user to install. I also don’t think that the space allotted inside of the case would allow for a whole lot of airflow or space with larger graphics cards.

Moving on to drive installation we don’t encounter many problems, except for the annoyance of removing the stubborn bezel away from the case. For some reason In Win decided to use larger clips on one side, the right side, and use smaller ones on the other. The larger ones are pretty easy to remove, but the smaller ones are just a pain to remove. I’m not the world’s strongest man or anything, but it really shouldn’t take a whole lot of effort to remove the front bezel.

In Win has developed and patented a clever rail system for a couple of their cases including this one and the Stealth Bomber we previously reviewed. Green and black in color, matching the theme of the inside of the case, have two pins to slide into the side of the drives. These pins are surrounded by a soft rubber to help reduce noise and vibration. More raised rubber slits extend down the rest of the rail for added support.

Once attaching both of the rails to the optical drive just a simple slide into an empty drive bay will have it installed. You will have to remove the front bezel to do so.

The 3.5″ internal drives work just as easy as the optical drives do without the hassle of removing the bezel. Just simply attach the two rails with the clips facing towards the connection end of the hard drive, and then slide it into one of the four drive bays.

After getting all of the necessary cables installed you’re not left with a whole lot of room inside of the case. This case really isn’t the greatest for cable management.

After getting the case powered up I was expecting a little more out of the blue LED’s on the front bezel.
