ICY DOCK MB662USEB-2S-1 Dual Bay Hard Drive Enclosure Review

Final Thoughts
This is a another very useful and quality designed enclosure from ICY DOCK.  If you have two 3.5-inch SATA drives and need an enclosure for them this enclosure is a great choice.  The drive looks awesome sitting on your desk and the 40mm fan is not that loud at all and you can even turn it down if you like.  Installation is extremely easy since the enclosure is completely tool-less, you simply slide your drives in and you are good to go.  While I did like to tool-less installation the doors seemed a little flimsy to me.

Having 3 separate connections on the back (USB 2.0, Firewire & eSATA) means if you take this enclosure with you to work or to a friends house it is going to be compatible with their system.  I would have really liked to have seen a USB 3.0 connection over the older USB 2.0.  A USB 3.0 connection can be backwards compatible with USB 2.0 so why not just give us the speed?

The RAID function on the enclosure is one of its best features.  This way you can set your drives to RAID 0 or RAID 1 modes for data redundancy and speed.  So if one of your drives happen to die you can swap it out with a new one and not lose any data.  If you want to use the enclosure in JBOD mode it supports hard drives up to 3TB so you can have a total of 6TB of storage space!

ICY DOCK backs the MB662USEB-2S-1 with a 3 year warranty.  Right now you can pick it up at my favorite online retailer for $209.99.  Overall ThinkComputers gives the ICY DOCK MB662USEB-2S-1 Dual Bay Hard Drive Enclosure an 8 out of 10 score.
