HP S700 Pro 512GB Solid State Drive Review

HP S700 Pro 512GB Solid State Drive Overview
The HP S700 Pro looks-wise is pretty basic. It has a black metal chassis and on the top you have a large HP logo in the center and “Solid State Drive” in the bottom left corner.

Flipping over to the back we have a large sticker that has all of our model and serial numbers on it. There are also four mounting holes.

On each side of the drive there are two more mounting holes. As you can see this is a 7 mm-thick solid state drive, so it will easily fit in laptops.

Finally on the end of the drive we of course have our SATA data and power connections. The metal chassis on the drive is completely screw-less so it is one of the ones that you have to sort of pop open to see what is inside. We don’t recommend this as it will void your warranty.

If you were to open the drive inside you will find SMI’s SM2258 controller and Micron 3D TLC NAND. This controller is one of the most popular being used in 2.5-inch solid state drives today. One interesting thing about this drive is that it comes with HP high performance firmware, which we will see if that makes a big difference in our tests.
