Final Thoughts
When it comes to external hard drive enclosures they are pretty much all alike. So you need to do something with the enclosure to set it apart from all of the other ones out there. With the Goliath Hornettek has done a few things to set it apart. It does have a nice aluminum finish on it and it does have the 80mm cooling fan. When it comes down to it those are about the only things that really set it apart from the hundreds of USB 3.0 drives out there.
The biggest disappointment that I had with the Goliath was that it is pink! Hornettek advertises the color that I received as “Crimson Red”, but it is most definitely pink and does not look like the photos on their website or on the box that it came in. Again if I had ordered this drive thinking I was getting a red enclosure and I received pink I would be quite upset! The drive does come in plain black as well.
Having a USB 3.0 enclosure is nice, it is definitely a speed boost over a USB 2.0 enclosure. With all new motherboards coming with USB 3.0 standard it is about time you upgrade to a USB 3.0 enclosure. Also the enclosure is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 so you don’t have to worry about it not working on an older system.
This drive is not sold at my favorite online retailer, but I was able to find it on Amazon for as low as $29.99, which is a great deal for a USB 3.0 hard drive enclosure. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Hornettek Goliath USB 3.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure an 8 out of 10 score.
