Garmin Introduces Its First Portable Head-up Display

I’m sure if you own or have been in a newer higher-end vehicle you have seen the cool heads-up display that shows you the time, speed and maybe a few other details. This display and built right into the windshield so you can keep your eyes on the road. Well Garmin wants to bring this technology to everyone with their portable Head-up Display for smartphone navigation apps.

Garmin HUD

HUD is a device about the size of a normal GPS unit that sits on the dashboard and will project information onto a transparent film that you apply to your windshield. Since the projected information is on the windshield in the drivers line of sight this should prove to be a lot safer than traditional GPS units.

The unit works in conjunction with Garmin’s StreetPilot and NAVIGON smartphone apps via a Bluetooth connections. We are unsure if the device will work with other smartphone apps.

The HUD will be available sometime this summer with a MSRP of $130.
