G.Skill TridentX DDR3-2400 8GB Dual Channel Memory Kit Review

Final Thoughts
The final page, then. Or the second page, if you read the introduction and then the closing thoughts. No, I’m not judging you, I know how it works. To summarize:

The G.Skill TridentX kit looks awesome if you’re going for a black/red theme like an ASUS ROG board, or ASRock Fatal1ty, or pretty much anything red. Currently G.Skill does not offer any other color options, so if you care about color matching and build aesthetic, you may be limited in your choice of other components. The aggressive heatspreaders are made well and look even better in the flesh than they do in the pictures. The modules overall are very weighty and have a feeling of quality. They ARE very big though, and will definitely have clearance issues with aftermarket air coolers. Luckily, G.Skill allows you to remove the red portion of the heatspreader to eliminate clearance issues. If you want both the aesthetic along with an aftermarket cooling solution, you should probably invest in water cooling or a closed-loop water cooling unit.

To be able to get a kit that runs at 2400Mhz and simply “set it and forget it” is fantastic. The modules currently have the best out-of-the-box performance of any memory we’ve tested to date. Overclocking on the TridentX was a difficult affair due to the 3570k’s IMC (internal memory controller) that was potentially limiting the overclockability of the DIMMs. As far as this memory series is concerned, I wouldn’t recommend getting the 2666 or 2800Mhz kits if you’re using a 3570k; you may end up having to reduce the speeds to get them to function.

The TridentX 2400Mhz 2x4GB kit is currently available for just $69.99 at my favorite online retailer, making it reasonably priced and competitive in its market segment. High-performance memory usually carries a high-performance price tag, and G.Skill have managed to offer a good price point for enthusiasts on a budget.  Overall ThinkComputers would like to award the G.Skill TridentX kit a 10 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award.
