G.Skill Phoenix Pro 40GB Solid State Drive Review

Phoenix Pro 40GB Overview
The G.Skill Phoenix Pro 40GB drive looks identical to the 60GB drive we reviewed a little bit ago.  Like most solid state drives it has the 2.5-inch form factor.  It has an all black aluminum housing and a sticker on the front that lets us know it is a Phoenix Pro 40GB drive.

Flipping it over there is a large sticker on the back that has all the serial numbers and important information included the official part number which is FM-25S2S-40GBP2.  Missing from this sticker is the max read and write speeds, which we saw on the 60GB drive.  You have your typical SATA power and data connectors on the drive as well.

Now this drive has been designed a little bit different so you cannot open it to take a look at the internal components.  G.Skill tells us that the drive uses the SandForce SF-1200 series controller, more specifically the SF-1222TA3-SBH chip.  G.Skill also tells us this drive has a max read of 280MB/s and max write of 270MB/s.  Here are some photos of the internals of the 60GB Phoenix Pro, which should be extremely similar to the 40GB version.

I also wanted to point out this drive does come with a mounting bracket.  These are becoming standard, but some solid state drives still do not come with these and it is nice to see one included.
