Fractal Design Core 500 Case Review

A Look Inside
To get inside the Core 500 you will need to remove the top panel, which is a single 3-sided panel. Honestly I am not a huge fan of these, I would prefer three separate panels. The 3-sided panel is pretty common with these type of cases though. The panel is secured by four thumbscrews and is easily pulled off from the rest of the case. Once removed we find two magnetic filters.

Let’s start with the top of the case. As I said we have some pretty impressive cooling options up here, especially for the size of this case. You have room for two 120 or 140 mm fans or water cooling radiators up to 280 mm. The fan mount bracket is actually removable, which will make installing your cooling much easier.

Taking a look at the main side of the case you can see there is room for a mini-ITX motherboard and the standoffs are already pre-installed. Next to that is the power supply mount, again you can fit a normal ATX power supply in this case. At the front of the case is the 5.25-inch drive bay and there is also a 3.5-inch internal hard drive mount here as well.

Moving over to the opposite side of the case there are two 2.5-inch hard drive mounts, these face the outside of the case. On the opposite side of those (inside of the case) are two 3.5-inch hard drive mounts. So in total you have support for up to six hard drives! On this side of the case you can see the power extension cable, this allows you to have a power connection on the back of the case with your power supply mounted in the front of the case.
