EVGA X299 Micro Motherboard Review

Final Thoughts
When it is all said and done EVGA has an excellent motherboard in their X299 Micro. On top of that it is one of the only Micro-ATX X299 motherboards out there. Honestly I do not know why there are not more out there. Micro-ATX size with the power of the X299 platform really allows you to build a killer system in a smaller form factor. This means you can build a pretty badass LAN rig, or a very powerful workstation for editing video.

EVGA has held their ground with the RGB craze, you will not find any RGB LEDs on this motherboard or flashy colors either. You have a black PCB with black and gunmetal accents. They did include an RGB header if you wanted to add a RGB LED strip, but there is nothing on the board itself. This really gives you a blank canvas to work with if you are planning a mod around this motherboard.

As far as features go EVGA has loaded this board up with everything you would want. You have three PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots, two of which are spaced perfectly for an SLI setup. And you could use the third for a PCI-Express solid state drive. Talking about drives you have an M.2 slot as well as a U.2 port on this board. There is multiple USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 ports too. This board also has 802.11ac WiFi + Bluetooth too. There really is not much missing on this board.

The only real issue I had with this board was with the WiFi card. You have to install it yourself, which is just a pain. Having to install it yourself is just an extra step in your installation and could lead to issues if you do not install it correctly. Also many other motherboard makers have a full suite of companion software for their motherboards, it is absent here.

Right now you can pick up this motherboard at our favorite online retailer for $289.99. Overall ThinkComputers gives the EVGA X299 Micro Motherboard a 9 out of 10 score.
