D-Link Wi-Fi Audio Extender Review

Whether someone is at home, work, school, hotel, or sporting events, chances are they would love to be connected to Wi-Fi. Cellular networks are much better than they were years ago, but there’s still nothing like a quality Wi-Fi connection. Like every radio, Wi-Fi access points only have so much output power, and even at ideal power levels for an access point, it may not extend to the far reaches of an area. A common way to reach hard to reach areas is with an extender. D-Link Wi-Fi Audio Extender will help extend a 2.4GHz b/g/n Wi-Fi network and also has a little bonus, audio streaming!

Special thanks to D-Link for providing us with their Wi-Fi Audio Extender to review.

Packaging & What’s In The Box
D-Link’s boxes tend to look alike, however they do slight variations with the red, blue, green, and orange/yellow colored circles. On Wi-Fi Audio Extender’s package, the circles are centrally layered, there is also a picture of Wi-Fi Audio Extender with its green LED illuminated. The right side is home to Key Features such as 802.11 b/g/n, wireless speeds up to 300Mbps, WPA/WPA2 support, WPS, protocol support such as AirPlay, DLNA, and Wi-FI WMM, and lastly there’s a short list of what’s in the box.

Back of the packaging shows a similar modern furnished home as other D-Link products, but this time there is a speaker, and a 3.5mm audio cable from Wi-Fi Audio Extender to the speaker. There is also a diagram that shows how Wi-Fi Audio Extender can help eliminate dead zones. Flipping the box around to the last panel, there is a short setup guide including WPS.

As expected, Wi-Fi Audio Extender is not a large unit. There is an LED on the front that will red, or orange, or will be solid green when it is extending a Wi-Fi signal.
