Cougar SX850 850W Power Supply Review

Cougar SX850 Overview
When I first got a glimpse at the Cougar SX850 I said to myself, “Wow this thing looks cool!”.  Cougar has done a lot to make this power supply look visually appealing and stick out among other power supplies.  It features a dual-color design with red on the top and black on the side.  On the side of the power supply there is a large Cougar logo.

On the top of the unit there is a stick with your output graph on it.  As you can see 160W is dedicated to the 3.3V and 5V and 828W is dedicated to the 12V rails.  The back of the power supply has a honeycombed design that will help with cooling.  There is a simple power connection and button.

On the bottom of the unit you will see the 140mm fan with the Cougar logo in the middle.  There is a honeycombed design that covers the fan.  The fan features a hydro-dynamic bearing that provides the best lifespan and super silent performance.  The fan is also temperature controlled so it does not need to be on high speed when your system is not hot.

Looking towards the front of the unit you have 8 modular connections.  They are labeled so you know what cables to plug in.  This power supply is not completely modular as you do have some cables coming out of it.  One thing I always like to see is that the cables are sleeved all the way in to the power supply and on the SX850 they are.

Another thing that really caught my attention was the colors on the cables.  Just another cool thing that adds to the style of the SX series power supplies.  So how many different connectors do you get? On the SX850 you have 6 4pin molex connectors, 1 floppy connector, 10 SATA connectors and 4 8pin (6+2) PCI-E connectors.
