1440p Monitors Could Be Using 4K Panels

A new report from German website Prad.de says that sources close to monitor panel manufactures have told them that the production cost of a 27" 4K (3840 x 2160) is lower or at least equal to that of a 27" QHD (2560 x 1440) panel. This causes monitor manufactures to use 4K panels in QHD monitors when panel supply is low or monitor demand is high.

MSI Shows Four-Way M.2 PCIe Expansion Card That Looks Like a GPU

MSI is showing off a new 4-way M.2 PCI-Express expansion card that looks like a graphics card. This new expansion card seems to be MSI's solution to M.2 solid state drives over heating and in-turn throttling. MSI has re-purposed their Aero Cooler, which they use on graphics cards and applied it to this expansion card. This gives users 50W of cooling power, which can go up to 75W if you plug in the addition 6-pin power connector to put the fan in overdrive.

First Benchmarks & CPU-Z Screenshot of AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper 2 Chip Revealed

The first benchmarks and CPU-Z screenshots of AMD's upcoming Ryzen Threadripper 32-core flagship processor have been revealed by HKEPC. This 12 nm "Pinnacle Ridge" chip will be known as "Threadripper 2990X". So with that naming scheme you'll have a 12-core 2920X, 16-core 2950X, 20-core 2960X, 24-core 2970X, and a 28-core 2980X. On the CPU-Z screenshot we can see the 2990X runs at 3.4 GHz base and boosts up to 4.0 GHz and carries with it a TDP of 250W.

AMD Motherboard Makers Removing Support For Older CPU Models

Many motherboard makers are reporting that they might drop support for Bristol Ridge in future motherboard releases. The reason for this is that the BIOS has to support all processors by included the microcode for them. Supporting so many CPU models makes the size of the BIOS beyond 128 megabits (16 MB), which would exceed the capacity of the BIOS flash chips used by most motherboard manufacturers.
