While there were not a lot of big motherboard announcements at CES this year ASUS was showing off their recently announced Z87-Deluxe/SATA Express motherboard. This motherboard is a modified version of the original Z87-Deluxe where ASUS has swapped out the typical SATA connectors for SATA Express.
SATA Express makes use of the PCI Express bus allowing for speeds well above 6Gbps. This means you can see speeds of up to 1000 MB/s on SATA express devices. The new connector is also backwards compatible with SATA.
No word yet on when ASUS will be releasing the Z87-Deluxe/SATA Express.
