Final Thoughts
I love it when a company update an existing product and make it better. With the SBC-06D1S-U ASUS has improved the Blu-ray read speeds and added some cool features like the Blu-tuner and E-Green application.
The SBC-06D1S-U is an all-in-one drive. You are able to watch Blu-ray and DVD media, read Blu-ray and DVD media and write DVD and CD discs all at great speeds. We had no speed issues on any of our tests and playback of both Blu-ray and DVD movies was flawless. Keep in mind too that we tested the SBC-06D1S-U on a laptop that only has a 1.3Ghz processor and 4GB of memory. The included software covers pretty much anything you will be doing with the drive, so there is no unnecessary software to purchase.
I really like the slim design of the SBC-06D1S-U. It makes it easy to travel with and since you do not need an extra power connector because it is powered by USB there is less to carry with you. I would have liked to see ASUS include some type of carrying case though.
The SBC-06D1S-U sells for $149 at my favorite online retailer and there really is not much competition in the “slim” drive market so this drive is the definite choice! Overall ThinkComputers gives the ASUS SBC-06D1S-U External Slim Blu-ray Combo Drive a 10 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award!
