We’ve known ASUS’s ROG series for their red and black color design, but over the past couple of years every major motherboard manufacturer went with the same color on their gaming series boards. We’ve seen ASUS change this color to a new orange and black design, which is on the ROG Maximus VIII Extreme Assembly. ASUS has taken things even further on the Maximus VIII Formula giving it a full RGB overhaul. There are RGB LEDs are placed across the board and you have the ability to change the color to suit your needs.

The of course is a Z170 motherboard supporting Intel’s latest 6th generation Skylake processors. Power to the board comes by way of a combination of 8-pin and 24-pin connectors and the board has a beefy VRM that is geared towards overclocking. As far as expansion slots you have three PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots (x16/x8/x8 electrical) and three PCI-Express 3.0 x1 slots. For storage there are 8 SATA 6GB/s ports, two SATA Express ports and a single NVMe connector. The board also makes use of the SupremeFX 2015 chip that is a high-end audio solution that come with ESS ES9023P (DAC) with Hyperstream technology, ultra-low-jitter clock, Nichicon capacitors, 2VRMS headphone amp, and Sonic SenseAmp.

Another cool thing about this board is that it features a hybrid cooling design over the VRM / MOSFETs. This cooling solution is actually made by EK Water Blocks and we know it features a copper base.
