ASUS P6T Intel X58 LGA 1366 Motherboard Review

Installation

Test Rig:
Intel i7 920
Kingston HyperX DDR3-2000 triple channel 3-gig kit
Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 Toxic VaporX
OCZ EliteXStream 800 watt PSU
NZXT Tempest extended midtower
Noctua NH-U12P cooler with LGA 1366 installation kit
Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit

Nothing particularly different with installation of the i7 over any other rig, except the third memory module. Prepare the CPU and CPU cooler base with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth. Apply thermal compound per manufacturer’s instructions.

Install the CPU cooler and memory. Memory goes into the orange slots, which is the second set of slots from the CPU, just the opposite of what Intel users are accustomed to. Place the I/O shield into the designated opening. Asus has included a Q-Shield, their padded, shielded I/O shield. So nice not to have to deal with those stupid springs on most shields.

Install the video card, and plug in the PCI-E power cables. You see that I forgot to do that here. Don’t worry, the system will let you know.I got a big message telling me to do that as soon as I powered the rig up. Double check your work, and that’s it.
