ASRock X58 SuperComputer Intel X58 Motherboard Review

ASRock Smart BIOS Performance
The X58 SuperComputer has all of ASRock’s unique features, including Smart BIOS settings, a group of optimized settings. A new addition to this is EZ Overclocking, where you can load optimized CPU overclocking settings. Everything is preset, just punch in the CPU clock you want, and the BIOS does the rest.

Looking at the Advanced Chipset Configuration, we see the changes made in the BIOS by the Smart settings. BCLK has been raised, along with the CPU voltage.

EZ Overclocking is a way for the novice to do real BIOS overclocking without the hassles. Awesome!

Overclocking / Initial Testing
The X58 SuperComputer’s BIOS is very obviously designed for the retail versions of the i7, moreso than the other X58 motherboards I’ve used. Several fairly important settings were blanked out with my Engineering Sample i7 920, which has a locked multiplier and locked QPI, unlike the retail versions of the i7 which are not locked.

I was still able to attain a rock-solid 3.72gHz overclock by raising the CPU voltage to 1.4v. This isn’t quite as high as I was able to get with the other i7 motherboards, but I was probably held back a little by the blanked-out settings. I was able to boot at 4.0gHz, but the stability just wasn’t there until I got down to 3.72gHz.
