With Intel’s announcement of X299 and new processors we are going to see a whole slew of new motherboards. One of the more interesting ones is ASRocks tiny X299E-ITX motherboard, which is of course a Mini-ITX X299 motherboard. The LGA2066 socket actually takes up most of the board itself!
Since the socket takes up most of the board you are actually going to find two riser cards. The first is near the rear I/O and houses an M.2 slot. It is interesting that the card next to the board says it supports 3 M.2 slots, maybe the other two are on the back of the board? The second is on the opposite side and has six SATA 6GB/s ports, USB 3.0 header, and a USB 2.0 header. The board is powered by an 8-pin EPS connector and we can spot at least three 4-pin fan headers. The CPU is conditioned by a 7-phase power design.
You are not going to find normal DDR4 DIMM slots, instead there are four SO-DIMM slots which support up to DDR4 3200+ memory. There is a single PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slot which is metal reinforced. You are going to get dual Gigabit Ethernet provided by Intel controllers as well as 802.11ac WiFi.
Looking at the rear I/O there you have your antenna connectors for the WiFi, a clear CMOS button, two USB 3.1 (type-a / type-c), four USB 3.0, dual Gigabit Ethernet, and your audio connections. The audio is powered by the Realtek ALC1220 audio codec.
